David Leitner, 44, immigrated to Israel at the age of 20.
He enlisted as a lone soldier and served in the “Maglan” commando unit, where he was wounded during an exercise. As a result of the injury, a neurological issue of chronic pain called CRPS developed. The disease started in his right leg and, a few years later, spread to the left leg as well. However, David completed his doctorate at Bar-Ilan University and is currently a lecturer and consultant on strategy and leadership. David is married and has three children.
The challenge: A leg shield
The chronic pain disease that David suffers from causes a situation where any contact with the legs causes unbearable pain. In both legs, the pain reaches all the way up to his knees. As a result, the legs tremble and sometimes straighten/jump. David moves around in a wheelchair, and he needs a shield that will protect his legs and allow a quick opening if necessary. The shield must be able to absorb blows from his surroundings, but also be lightweight, and which can be transferred from chair to chair easily.
